FAQ

The question I get most is “What if I want something new?  My stuff is so tired. It just isn’t me anymore.”

While the concept of simply…Aha! is to use what you have, sometimes a new item or two can add even more to the transformation. Some of you are just starting out and have not had as much time to collect all the treasures, and others of you are very good at keeping your lives uncluttered and passing items on to someone else. During the preview consultation we will check out your furnishings and accessories. We will talk about the options and decide which of the following is best for you:

1. Do the makeover first and see if there are any holes to fill. You might be surprised by what treasures we discover in the process!!!

OR

2. Purchase items prior to the makeover, leaving the tags on so unused items can be returned. (You can do the shopping or we can go together).  Typically, purchased additions come in the form of a lamp, replacing an art print (often using an existing frame) or using a new fabric on a pillow or table.

How long does an average room transformation take?

Most rooms are completed in 4-6 hours. Variables that affect the length of the process are the size of the room, number of accessories, bookcases and the amount of artwork to be hung.

What actually happens the day of the room makeover?

When my assistant and I arrive on the day of your makeover we will discuss any last minute details, set an “estimated time of completion” and plan for a time that you will call to see if we are ready for your return home. Once you head out the door to work or a day of fun (one client treated herself to her own makeover…new haircut, color, style…. GREAT idea don’t you think!!!) we get to work.  We set up a traffic pattern and designate areas for our down load sites.  Then, starting with the accessories and working our way through to the biggest furniture items, we clear everything out of the room. And I mean EVERYTHING. When the room is emptied, we study the architectural features and begin to rebuild your room around the focal point. Piece by piece, items are added back in. As we rebuild the room we may “shop the house” (with your permission, of course!) for needed items, sometimes switching pieces from another room or dusting off a treasure we come across in storage.  The final accessorizing is always the most fun as it really brings the room together and makes it come alive. By using your things we bring YOUR personality into the room so that it reflects who you are and not who we are.  This is also the time that gets quite hectic for us as we see the clock ticking and know we are about to get a phone call from you. When you get the “all clear” from us, you head on home for the unveiling. We will greet you at the front door and then step back and let you take it all in…..

Who uses your services?

People who use the services of a room rearranger or redesigner are people who appreciate being in a room that “feels right”, but, for a variety of reasons,   find that they do not have the time, energy or know how to create it for  themselves in their own home.

Typical scenarios for room makeovers-

Clients say their rooms feel “tired” and need a lift, but life is very busy and they do not have the time to do it themselves.   They are often surprised to discover that when their room gets a lift, they do too!!

Households are blended together and there is just plain “too much stuff”.   A neutral party is helpful in that things can be looked at objectively.

A recent move into a new home or apartment and it just doesn't have the "homey" feel they had anticipated.

The moving van leaves and they can’t look at another box and don’t know where to start in setting up the room. Besides, the new job starts tomorrow and they have to call for the phone hook up, get the kids registered for school…..  It feels great to have at least 1 or two rooms DONE, and in just 1 day!!

Clients want to lighten up as summer nears or get ready for the approaching Minnesota winter by cozying things up a bit.

Downsizing to an apartment or moving into a retirement center.

I want new furniture, carpet, advice on remodeling, window treatments. Are you the one to help?

Those of you who are making major purchases or remodeling and are looking for someone to pick it out for you are in need of the services of an interior designer rather than a professional interior arranger or room redesigner.  My focus is on using what you already own and not on selling merchandise or structural renovation.
